About this build
Our lightweight, powder-coated aluminum engine mount is the setup endorsed by LIVE Watersports and is engineered specifically for the L2 and L4 boards. It’s designed for 15-inch shaft gas outboards and transom-mounted electric motors, at the proper height and pitch to maximize shallow-water performance in backcountry, lakes, rivers and coastal waters. The result is a strong, lightweight, extremely capable platform that turns your LIVE board into a versatile skiff while keeping the handling it was designed to have.
The engine mount and front utility plate are sold together because they’re engineered as a complete system. This is the same setup included with every SUP Customs hybrid build. Like any kayak, paddleboard or jon boat, weight distribution is critical once you add a motor: too much weight on the stern handles poorly and can become unsafe, and without enough weight on the bow the L4 Expedition won’t trim correctly or get on plane as designed. A cupped propeller is required on all 3.5–6 hp gas motors to give the proper bite in the LIVE tunnel hull.
A note from us: we’ve moved entirely to powder-coated aluminum instead of StarBoard. It cost us more to make, but aluminum eliminates the flex that could damage tracks and gives a far more rigid, dependable platform. We also now require that every motorized LIVE Watersports board be built the way we build our own complete packages — we’re no longer supporting DIY-style builds. That wasn’t an easy call. It took us years of testing and our own mistakes to learn what works safely, and we’ve seen too many boards assembled incorrectly, some of them genuinely unsafe. The best experience is the complete setup, and every full build includes your complimentary on-the-water tuning session.
