David Breaks Down His Hybrid Setup + Trolling Motor Tips!

What I cover in this video

  • It's blowing 15 right now, and instead of beaching mine I just held it down with the Power-Pole micro anchor.
  • My Rugged Road cooler is my seat and my casting platform. I move it forward to work the mangrove lines, back to sit.
  • A transom mount doesn't take up any board space — a little adapter and four nuts and bolts onto our plate.
  • If I spot lock on a fish it swings me around into the wind and current. The micro pole keeps me pointed straight at him.
  • Nav mode holds you on a line so you can just fish it, instead of constantly resetting your trolling motor.

All right, everyone. David Austin SUP Customs out here. Wednesday's our content day and we got Keenai back with us, don't we? Good girl. So anyways, doing another YouTube video to help explain a little bit more about LIVE Watersports boards, how we sell them and coat them and put all of our manufactured accessories on it, turn them into skiffs or motorized kayaks. So if you've seen us on Instagram and Facebook, it's intrigued you. But YouTube is just to help you understand if you can't, especially if you can't do a test day.

What these things do. So, I have this right now locked down with the Power-Pole micro anchor and gosh, it's blowing 15 right now. I mean, it's it's really blowing. I mean, it's it's getting it's holding me down. Don't trust it with your life or anything, but instead of beaching mine, I just held mine down with my micro anchor. Austin up there with the bottom coating an just beached his. So, while he films me, his is beached. We don't like to walk away from them for a very long period of time with the micro pole spike in with it this windy and wavy.

So, I got the six horsepower Suzuki with a stainless steel cup prop and I'm sorry, Tahitsu. We sell Suzuki cut prop and a cavitation plate. I moved my battery. Keenai, come here. I moved my battery to the back. I like it back there. So, I have all this deck space. So, let's pretend you want to do screens or whatever up here. Fish finders. Come on, Key. It's it's here. So, I got my music turtlebox. I got my Rugged Road cooler here. That's my seat. We do back rest. We do cooler pads. It's my seat. It's also my casting platform.

So, I'll jump on it here. I'll move it forward. Sorry, it's a little wavy. You know, it's really wavy. I'll get on it. And then I'll use it for my casting platform while I'm out there and I and I'll work the the mangrove lines and stuff like that. And then when I want it to for a seat again, I'll move it back, use it for my seat. And then there's 12 tracks on this on this live water sports board. And when you buy from us, it's the upgraded aluminum. And you can tie anything down. So you can tie coolers down, you can tie anything you want down.

Obviously, our plate right there is six screws in it and nuts and they slide in and out and you take the plate on and off. The engine plate in the back, same thing. Eight T-bolts slide in these tracks and plate comes on and off. But wanted to do a little tutorial about the a trolling motor in general general. This is the AutoBoat that we're selling that we like for our skiffs, but any trolling motor will do. All right, let me get the dog. Come here, babe. Come on. Come on. Get on the board. Let's go. Jump up. All right.

So, let me get out of here. Austin's going to walk down. Keep recording. So, this is a transmount trolling motor. It's not a bow mount, so it doesn't take up any of the space. It's this little transom mount adapter is what does puts it on our plate. Real simple with four nuts and bolts. So, it has a little trigger underneath. There we go. All right. So, it's an airboat. I feel like I'm on the nature coast. I don't know why there's an airboat out here. So, all right. [Music] Sit. All right. And then the paddle that we [Music] sell.

We sell this accent paddle. I mean, I just love it. Has this little cord and adjusts. It's really, really, really nice. Do you need a paddle? No. But I really, really like to have one out here. Sometimes I just drift and get lost. You know what I mean? And just like that paddle. So, all right. So, before I raise up my Power-Pole here. Yeah. Hold on. Hold on. Let me this P now. This is a good example. Set, baby. Come on. If I was too shallow. I have this sunk about 8 in. Then I just loosen that up. I raise it and I can keep going.

I can probably trolling motor in two, three inches. But right now I have it a little bit the shaft down a little bit more. So, anyways, I'm gonna raise up my micro pole there and I want to talk about trolling motor functions in these videos. So, let's go. Meet me down there. [Music] This is one of the things that people when investing in a trolling motor setup, you know, do you want to go cheap $100 handheld one? Do you want to go with a remote but no spot lock, no GPS, Chinese one or something? Because before the AutoBoat the real only GPS driven were bow mounts and you know $2,000 and I never I never had one because I just I went with a I needed a remote for skinny water but now that this is out for 900 bucks you know around it's a kind of a game changer with so why spend 700 on a cheap chi you know Chinese one when you can have for around the same price the spot lock capability and this is why for one I need a trolling motor period.

I like to paddle because I just want every option. I want a micro pole to anchor down in shallow water, get on fish without this thing. Because right now, if I saw a fish right now and I use spot lock, it would turn me around. So, I'm trying to catch a fish as my boat's circling around because it's going to go into the wind and current. So, that but the micro pole keeps me straight at the fish. So, like like it's doing right now. So, I like everything. If if I'm out there, this is my I got five kids and a farm and businesses and I just this is my day.

I want to come out here and I just want to have my day and I want to just do my thing and conquer everything and you know, like I said, I actually sold my personal boats and this is what we do and I kept the boat club, Freedom Boat Club for the family to have all those boat options and locations. But anyways, so I need a I need a trolling motor just to hit creek mouse and not have to motor all all the time. But this is another feature that people don't realize. Outside of spot lock keeping you that bridge over there was keeping me in a five foot window and I was just fishing that bridge.

But navigation mode is what AutoBoat calls theirs. But it's just basically it keeps you on a straight line. So let me go a little further up here. All right. There you go. Micro pole up. And what I like about nav mode is this. Let me turn around for you. And if I wanted to work this on my left, this mangrove line here, and whatever direction I'm pointing this, and I hit nav mode, and I say up and down, it will keep me in that exact direction. So, I don't want to be I'm I'm too close obviously to this. I'm too close right now.

But now if I turn this thing to that say go at that sign there, it's going to keep me going in that direction. All right. So, if I say go back to this sign here, and now what I can do is I can just continually fish that line and stay whatever direction based off what I told her to go and it's just going to turn and it's going to do its thing. See, right now it just turned back on itself by itself and going right there. So, nav mode, it just makes your life easier. Let me turn this thing off. Makes your life easier.

So, you have one the trolley, especially a windy day like this. You have the trolling motor to conquer wind currents. You have spot lock to lock you down if I'm fishing a bridge or a dock right into this one area. Or you got nav mode just to keep you at exact distance from something and you can just fish it rather than fish instead of you having to sit there and fish on this on the beach or that line of mangroves or something and you have to continually move your trolling motor. It's going to do it for you. So I hope that helps on any that's goes for any GPS driven trolling motor is that nav mode.

They call it something different each company. But I hope that helps. Especially in a in a scenario like this that it's blowing, it's choppy. It's a perfect scenario to where you would normally not take out a paddle board, but you would when you have a paddle board tricked out with SUP Customs like this setup. So SUP Customs.com or call, give you all this advice, let you know what fits your needs. We'll take care of you. Take it easy.
