David with SUP Customs Explains Why He Reversed His Fishing Strategies After Building a Hybrid Skiff
What I cover in this video
- I had three boats and nine kayaks before these LIVE Watersports boards that we turn into skiffs.
- I reversed my fishing years ago. Now I'm back here at low tide, and we've already fished it for hours before the charters come in.
- At these low tides you get little pockets — two inches over there, 18 inches here — and 27 inch redfish are sitting in them.
- I'm pulling reds on a Bull Bay rod and a little Florida Fishing Products 2500, with a tweaker from Salt Strong.
- Seven or eight hours out here and I haven't seen a boat all day, outside of that airboat.

Everyone trying to stay low out of the wind. This is another YouTube video that I may put on Instagram. We've been invited to speak at some clubs and people that do test days. Yeah, they're they're coming out and checking out the boards, but they also really get to learn fishing. So, my mind's there. And also, it really is to answer why not a boat or whatever. I had three boats, nine kayaks before these live water sports pores. We turn them into skiffs. I'm also a member of Freedom Boat Club and that gives me I don't know 600 boats in Tampa Bay and that takes care of the family with pontoons and and my fishing is basically way back or way out.
I mean, those that's my fishing. So, I don't really I'm not the two mile, five mile guy. But people ask why these paddle boards for us is because surprisingly I reversed my fishing years ago. Now I'm in the back country at low tides. And like the other video I just did chasing down cobia today. I try to see if they have arrived yet in in large numbers. And we just we just love it. And while the charters are coming back here at the boats, we've already fished it for hours. Haven't seen a human. I mean we did see this.
So now I'm back here at low tide. And hold on. This is fun. You can see how skinny it is. You see the mangrove roots here all exposed. We got the airboers going over spit. [Music] Right. But what we've learned over the years, making sure he's not running over me. All right. [Music] Ah, it's not going to be big enough. Got to love hardworking people. All right. What we've learned over the years is this is kind of deep. And at these low tides, you'll see I don't know if you can see them. They're they're like little pockets.
I don't know, it's 2 in over there and 18 in there. And believe it or not, these dudes, these dudes, these 27 inch big old red fish are sitting in them. This guy, I've pulled a few reds out of these holes. But I'm I'm getting a red off my my my bull bay and rod and and my and my Florida fishing product little 2500. I've switched over to this little tweaker from Salt Strong. It did the job. My other shrimp wasn't working from another brand. And I'm getting a fish off mine and all of a sudden I look up and these fish, these red fish are just running through this creek because it's the only water available to them right now.
So anyways, it's having a blast. That's why we do the paddle boards. We can get skinny. Now I'll I'll crank up and this is deep for us, but there'll be spots I run through these airboat trails like that guy. I'll be going two, three inches and and I'll be getting that that prop up to get back to Austin. They're on some reds, too. So, today the Cobia didn't show up. I mean, they're on their way. My dad caught one yesterday. That's why I came out today to see if they're here in large numbers. But these guys, some mullet there behind me.
This has just been lit with mullet and reds right there. They've just been hanging there because it's the only place they can go. And I've just been plucking them out. So, I've had fun. I'm going to get back to Austin and our friend on his board. And I hope that just helps a little bit about why a paddle board outside of that airboat. I haven't seen a boat all day. I've been out here a good seven, eight hours. So, love it. So, take it easy, guys. Check us out. Give us a call if you want to do a test day. If you need advice, SUP Customs.com or give us a ring.
