Do You Need a Trolling Motor on Your SUP Customs Hybrid?

Everyone, David, SUP Customs here in Appalachiccola, St. George Island at the state park with all these guys doing our thing. Little SUP Customs trip, which we'll be inviting a lot of people to that own SUP Customs gifts. We'll start doing a lot of these. So, got a little Airbnb B&B. Got started a little bit late, but got out here. I don't know. We have four reds from him. Brian Jim has like five or six. I got one. Chaz over there has like two or three. Austin has a couple. And I caught a lot on a salt strong a little jerkbait.

Then it really slowed down. The current stopped and then we had these bug jigs bug. And and they said we wanted to try them and they said man when it's slow and the tide's slack and they're not biting. Put these on and it's like a fly for a spinning rod or bait casting and dude it is just slamming them. I bet you after I caught one red on this, I bet you the next 10 reds were on these bugs. But outside of that, let's talk about kind of trolling motor setup. This is an AutoBoat here. A transom mount. It means it goes on the end.

Bow mount would be go on the plate. Wanted to talk a little bit about why a trolling motor on this setup. Because once this becomes a skiff, a micro skiff, I tell people unless you're fishing outside of the elements, grass, flood tides, creeks that nothing's really moving. Okay. But the minute you turn to a skiff, you got to look at it as if in your GNU or in your little skiff, would you ever not have a trolling motor? And and the key is you would have one. Now, one thing about what I'm doing today, people talk about trolling motors, and I always needed a remote cuz I can't have a handle up here as I'm looking for fish.

So I need a remote. And the cheapest way to go that I did because I never really need a GPS or anything was a Chinese motor. But now there's the AutoBoat. There's a Beaver I just saw. And then then there's the Minn Kota and really Minn Kota. Maybe Power-Pole move all over well over $2,000. So you got this AutoBoat with GPS function for 900 bucks or so. You got that Vaver that I just saw 1,100 bucks and then you got the other priced ones. But to me now I went from okay I have to have a remote and don't need lock spot or GPS spot lock.

I am dyslexic. So excuse me. And I'm not the most the biggest expert on trolling motors cuz I'm more of a purist water guy pulling. But I'm getting more into this now that I got a lot of guys in bass tournaments and you know and I want to use them for more dock fishing and I use it to use it to creek hop, but I don't have any creeks here. So anyway, so I'm going to lift up my Power-Pole and people say think you need a GPS trolling motor because of spot lock. But that's not why I've grown to love it. And, over the last few months, going from just a remote control trolling motor to this, AutoBoat calls their nav mode.

True north, a lot of companies will call it. I hardly use my, spot lock to lock down. So, Austin's going to follow me here. This is what I've been doing all day. Okay. And this is what I do at home in mangrove lines is I'll hit this true north right here. And I'm going to point at one spot. And I've been doing this speed all day. Like literally this speed. Actually, right now is a little too fast. Number one. And it's going to take me at a point. And then what I'm going to do is I'm just going to cast. Cast. And if I'm drifting a little further away, I'll turn it this way.

And then I'll go to that point. But let's pretend I want to go to this pine tree over there. I'm going to point it there. Now, I'm going to slow this thing down and I'm just going to cast all day. All right. And it's going to go right to that that tree and it's going to keep me the perfect distance where I want to fish. Now, if I'm getting too close to the fish, I'm gonna turn it a little bit and it's just going to keep doing its thing. So, if I see a school of mullet like we've been seeing right now, all of these mullet, they're jumping over there and they're all probably a trough or something like that, a little cut off.

I want to stay what 30, 40t from them so I don't spook anything. And that's what I'm going to do. And this navigation mode on the AutoBoat or whatever you have, every GPS trolling motor. And I'm gonna throw this bug lure out there. Well, I'm getting a little too close. Okay. So, I haven't been using it to real spot lock down. I've just been using the nav mode true north and this has been my favorite thing in the world. So, is it worth $2,500 trolling motor or $5,000 true north? Probably not. But now that a lot of these with the spot lock options are 900, 1100, the Chinese one with remote has wings going to be 700 bucks.

So, it's really a game changer. It changes like if I it was blowing 20 miles per hour right now. There's just no way without a trolling motor I could it would even be hard to do with any trolling motor just being blown into the bank. So anyways, so if you have any questions, give me a call. Others are entering the skiff world. Others are I need my mom day or dad day and they just get it for them to have an excuse to go out to be alone or days like this.

I got father and sons and friends getting them because you can do this. They're over there doing their thing catching red fish on the point. Brian was a mile that way and me and my boys, my two boys stayed together here with Jim and caught all these reds. So, a lot of it is I don't have to share space on a little boat with you. I can do my thing, you do your thing. We're we're all enjoying each other catching fish. So, we had one spot that over here we got on a school of reds and we just circled it and all of us are just plucking red fish out of that little little circle.
